I am grateful to have had the chance to participate in the Hard Hat Reading Series, curated by Poets House. The series is a way of preserving beauty and bringing the Poets House community together as it rebuilds after a devastating flood in August of 2021.
As part of my offering, I read some of Agha Shahid Ali’s poems, Faiz’s, and my own–all poems that converse with one another, and represent the ways in which my own poetic lineage was formed. At the center of this discussion, inevitably, is the beloved.
